UK Chess Challenge Terafinal
Saturday, August 18
The final stage of the 2007 UK Chess Challenge took place in Leamington Spa; Berkshire players showed up very well in all 3 main competitions. The Ynojosa family performed spectacularly, with Felix Ynojosa winning the overall under 11 title and finishing 5th equal in the main Terafinal section, while Angelica Ynojosa took home the top girl's prize in the Challengers 'B' event. Felix's games were featured throughout the weekend in the commentary room, which was hosted by Stephen Gordon - winner of the 2005 UK Chess Challenge and joint runner up in the 2007 British Championships.
James Adair also had a great result in the Terafinal, finishing level with Felix. William Foo, qualifying for the Terafinal at his first attempt, gained very valuable experience in what was a high-quality event (the Terafinal includes players of all ages; William is under 9, and only played his first competitive event less than a year ago).
In the Challenger's 'A' event, Adrian Archer-Lock and Matthew Wadsworth were paired against each other in the final round, Adrian winning to secure his place amongst the prizes. Meanwhile, in the Challenger's 'B', Zach Salvini returned the same score as Angelica (12 / 18, 9th=), with Philip Archer-Lock just one victory further back.
