SAE - Reading School Saturday, October 22

With no fewer than 9 players entered with a Berkshire of over 1000, it was sure to be a high quality event with few easy wins for anyone. The turnout was surprisingly high (36 entrants) given that a) it was the first Saturday of half term (or whatever it's called these days), and b) the hosts could only muster one entrant.

Last year's winner, Ben Davey, was knocked off the podium this time by the still-in-form Adrian Archer-Lock who was once again unbeatable over 6 rounds. Second place was shared between James Adair and last week's victor, Zach Salvini, who both scored 5. A good number of under 9s found the going pretty tough, but trophy winner Roy Yinian Zhang stood out from the rest with 4 points.

One might have supposed that these new-fangled Berkshire Junior Grades would have started to settle down by now, with grade changes in any given event rather limited. But this event saw some of the most dramatic changes since the system started just over a year ago.
