The Berkshire U11 team scored a combined total of 30.5 points in the EPSCA final in Liverpool, coming 8th overall in a field of 15 counties.
It was an early start for most of our county players, with everyone making the journey to Liverpool in good time for the first round start of 11:45. With a couple of key players not able to make the journey, the expectations on the team needed to be realistic. All our players has to play their part on county boards in the main event. So with clear instructions to enjoy their chess and let others do the worrying, out team went into the first round and came out with a very credible 12 points. This put Berkshire right amongst the leading pack.
Round two was a tougher affair. We managed eight points and looked in danger of coming well down the list of counties. The team once again shown its character and fought very hard for the third round - scoring 10.5 points. This left Berkshire 8th overall and a fair reflection of the Berkshires status at national level in U11 chess.
wish to thank the whole team for being a pleasure to manage - never forget you went to Liverpool to play chess in an all England county chess final.
To all the Mums, Dads and guardians who support Berkshire Junior Chess - a big Thank You from the whole U11 team.
Lastly, may I personally thank the Nigel Dennis and the entire BJCA team for providing this wonderful opportunity for us all.
