After two rounds it was clear that there were three teams well ahead of the rest. Kent had 10½ points, Sussex 10 and Berkshire 9½. All the other teams had 6½ or less. The Berkshire team were having hard games against Kent and Sussex, and winning nearly all the other games, some of them quite easily. Edmond Lote won Queen for Rook and Knight against the Kent player, after being the exchange down, to win the Queen against two Rooks ending with more time on the clock, and went on to win all four games. Berkshire’s third place just missed the trophies, as there were trophies for first and second.
At the start, a team appeared from Leicestershire that had not entered. This caused a change to all the pairings delaying the start by 35 minutes. The games kept to the original move rate of half an hour each on the clocks, with less than the scheduled half an hour between games.
The event was well attended with 6 teams in the under 18 (open – 12 boards) and 9 teams in the under 18 (minor - 6 boards) sections, minor being under an average grade of 90. There were only 2 teams, Kent and Sussex, in the under 13 girls. Kent entered a team in every section, and two teams, one a girls team, in the under 18 (minor).
