This year the team made the long trek to Tiverton (Devon) to the EPSCA U11 Zone competition for qualification to the EPSCA U11 Final in Northampton in May. Six teams competed: Devon, Wiltshire, Birmingham, Wey Valley, Sussex and Berkshire.
We were pretty consistent in Rounds 1 and 2 scoring 11 out of 20 in each round. We went into the last round knowing that a strong performance could really challenge the medal positions. We had a fantastic round scoring 12½ points and securing the Bronze medal and qualification for the Final. Impressively we were only 2 points off Sussex in the silver medal position – which was a great improvement over the 4 counties tournament in February where the gap was some 15½ points over the same number of games!
Each and every person contributed to the outcome and to the team and is to be congratulated. Furthermore Edward McLaren, Tom Gayter, Matthew Wadsworth, Anthony Zhang and James Kinsler-Lubienski managed to score a perfect 3/3, and Ryan Wong and Sebastian Blackwell finished the day unbeaten.
Thanks to all the players for their excellent play, and also a big thank you to the parents for supporting your children (and getting them there!).
Roll on the Final!
