Under 11 EPSCA Zone
Saturday, March 17

On March 17th, the Berkshire U-11 team travelled to Swindon to participate in the EPSCA Zonal Qualifier. With eight teams competing (Berkshire, Birmingham, Buckinghamshire, Devon, Oxfordshire, Sussex, Wey Valley, Wiltshire), the Berkshire team banished the inconsistent performances from earlier in the season to grab bronze medal behind Wey Valley and Sussex and qualify for the EPSCA Final on Saturday, 12th May.
The encouragement to play unhurried chess was certainly showing results, with all five final five matches from the eighty first round games involving Berkshire players. Once again, it was pleasing to see the whole Berkshire team contributing towards the results, with points being won throughout the board order. Of particular note were Anthony Zhang, Nikolai Hinterreither, Jamie Sarson, Peter Isaksen, Sean Gleeson, and Tom Gayter who were all unbeaten and Sean Miles who defeated Wey Valley twice during the afternoon!
With less than size weeks to the finals, we shall endeavour to send out further training material to the squad players to ensure their Chess playing can continue to improve.
