On Saturday 12th May, a weakened Berkshire team arrived at Northampton for the last and most challenging event in our calendar – the EPSCA U-11 Championship. As expected, with the top 15 counties in the country competing and with four of our top 10 boards missing, this was a much tougher experience compared to the U11 Zonal qualifier where we had managed to claim 3rd place behind Sussex and Wey Valley.
Any doubts about the challenge ahead disappeared as the team returned from the first round with 10.5 points from 20 and ninth place. The pairings in the 2nd round pointed to an even tougher set of matches and true enough, Berkshire returned with a measly 6 points out of the 20 on offer. The final round saw some confidence regained, and Berkshire coming back with 10 points out of 20, with the end result of 26.5 points being only good enough for 10th place.
Thanks to all the players who have represented Berkshire U-11 throughout the year and of course the parents for supporting their endeavours. I wish those players in year 5 and below every success in next year’s the U-11 competition.
