On Saturday 12th January, the u9s faced their first challenge of the season with a friendly against Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Wey Valley and Sussex. Up against such opposition, the first round demonstrated the potential of the team, with a score of 9 out of 12, including 3 out of 3 from our three matches against Wey Valley. Round two proved to be a tougher affair, with the team only getting 6½ points from the 12 on offer, but still with some encouraging results, this time taking 1½ point from 3 against Sussex. The final round proved to be our toughest, gaining only 3½ points out of 12, leading to a total of 19 out of 36 and some way behind second place Sussex on 26 and the winners, Wey Valley, on 28. Congratulations to Nicholas Vallis for his unbeaten 2½/3. The team showed its potential in round 1 and I would hope to see all the squad at the upcoming training session on 2nd February, where they can improve their skills in advance of our next friendly on 9th February.
