On Saturday 16th March, the U11 team faced off against 7 other counties in the EPSCA Zonal qualifier. Playing some of the counties we recently faced in a friendly, the team showed how they have developed and improved over the season, bringing home bronze medals behind Wey Valley and Sussex.

It did not start off this promising though in Round 1, where we scored 9 points out of 20 only. The Berkshire team came back with an incredibly strong Round 2 with 14.5 points outright winning that round. And again in Round 3 the team showed what they are made of with scoring 13 out of 20 points.

Every member of the team scored in this event which shows the broad strength and commitment to Berkshire junior chess. Anthony, Nikolai, Harvey, Jake, Siddarth and Adil remained unbeaten over three rounds, with Anthony and Jake scoring a perfect 3 of 3.

Attention now turns to the national finals on Saturday May11th in Nottingham. If we can go with a similarly strong team to Nottingham and the team members continue to improve, then we have a chance to be in contention for the one of top spots nationally!
