This season's first game for the U11 Berkshire team was against Barnet. Now, Barnet won the U9 EPSCA final last season, and of course many of them are this season in their U11 team... so this was a perfect opportunity to gauge ourselves against the best!?!
Nicholas Vallis led us from Board #1, taking the responsibility proudly from the start by winning the coin-toss! He then went on to show it was not just luck he had, but skill too, especially in some extended end-games: he gained 2 wins and a draw in his 3 games. On top form was Gurveen Kapoor: 3 wins out of 3 games - brilliant play against some strong opponents. Jack Carter on Board #3 also showed some inspired chess moves in some of the most complex middle-games. And also of note were Henry Munn, Jai Mohan, & Joshua Yates, who each brought home 2 points from their 3 games.
The final score was a respectful 18½ vs 41½ to Barnet - we had wins throughout the board levels, as even the best are not invincible, and showing that we can win games if we concentrate and avoid those costly blunders.
Many thx to Nigel Dennis for organizing the event, and to Dolphin school for hosting. See you at the next U11 event on Sunday February 15th. Keep practicing...
