With several of our better players unable to attend, many of the Berkshire players found themselves playing at higher boards than usual, but that did not phase them one bit, and with notable performances across the whole team, we scored points across the range of boards. However, it was not a lot of points.... and it was very close for 4th with Somerset throughout the 3 rounds - even up until the last three games of the final round it was still not clear who was to get that coveted 4th place and thus a place in the final. Somerset was 1.5 points behind Berkshire with 3 games yet to conclude: Berkshire had finished all their games, yet Somerset was at in all those 3 games... the excitement !?! - but sadly for Somerset each of the 3 games they lost, and so Berkshire came 4th - And the top 4 counties go through to the Final.
Sussex were on top form, and won clearly, so recognition indeed to Ciara Jolliffe, David Winsor & Nicholas Vallis who all took points from Sussex. Other top Berkshire points scorers with 1.5 were Aditya Singh & Maxim Dobrynin, and proud with 2 wins were Henry Munn, Joshua Yates, James Stewart & Advay Chopra. But it was David Winsor & Samuel Palmer that can boast loudest (and I know that's very loud as I had them both in my car for the way home...), as they had solid concentration, thus delivered consistency, and were unbeaten on the day. Well done to all.
Many thx to Jim Hoskins & Paul Vallis for being team coach / board steward - much appreciated.
