A huge well done to all those who competed in this year's tournament held once again in Yateley. There were Berkshire players in pretty much all of the different sections and it was especially good to see a significant number of Berkshire girls competing.
The tournament kicked off on Saturday and in the U7, Yashasvini Sreeram won 5/6 only losing to the eventual winner to pick up 3rd place and the Top U7 Girl. In the U9, Boris Stoyanov had 3/3 at the end of the first day and Mia Harris had notched up 2½/3 in the U11 England Trial Qualifier.
Day 2, on Sunday, saw Daniel Shek in the U8 picking up 4½/6 during the day to finish a more than respectable joint 5th, with Clemence Pham only a half point behind with 4/6. Meanwhile back in the U9 and U11 sections, both Boris and Mia fell away towards the end, finishing the day on 4/6 and 3/5 respectively. Boris ended the day in joint 6th position, whilst Mia achieved her aim by getting her first England U11 Trial half norm at the first attempt.
In the England Closed U14s both Victor Stoyanov and Oliver Thornley performed very well, Victor achieving joint second place on 3½/5 and Oliver a half point behind on 3/5.
A special mention goes to Tanvi Gatne who despite a shaky start in the U8 section listened to the advice given to her and continued to play with a smile on her face and growing confidence. She took 2½/3 in the final 3 games to finish with 3½/6.
Don’t forget to get your entries in for the Wiltshire & West of England Championships in a couple of weeks….see you there!
