SAE - St. Nicholas, Hurst Saturday, January 21

Another excellent turnout with over 40 players taking part, including 15 newcomers. The grading system is continuing to prove its worth by allowing sections to be created based roughly on playing standard. The Open section was very competitive with 7 players graded over the 1,000 mark. Adrian Archer-Lock has dropped one game in these events this season, but he wasn't about to let it happen again as romped to a perfect 6 / 6, including wins over the players who came 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th - so he didn't have an easy draw by any means.

The Challengers Section was a more open affair, with three players tying for first place on 5 / 6. The blitz playoff was won by newcomer Neil Hallett.

Those who live in the Reading area may have noticed that the tournament was widely covered in the local press, although curiously the Evening Post chose to illustrate the event with two large pictures of an adult playing a practice match against one of the children!
