Under 9 Primary Schools Jamboree

This 4 round jamboree for teams of 4 players under 9 is a new event for this season, and gives a chance for some less experienced children to have a go at some "proper" chess matches in a very open competition format where everyone plays a mix of other children and it's the team total, rather than individual scores that matter.
The day went very smoothly with players and team managers soon getting the hang of how to sort out who plays who in each round. The fine weather allowed for some outside "relaxation" between games, and all the matches were played in a very friendly manner with few, if any, disputes.
The 9 teams themselves came from 5 different schools, with an extra mixed team of reserves used to even up the pairings. Going in to the final round, it looked likely to be a close contest between Eagle House A and Ridgeway A, separated by only a single point, and with a game between the teams listed on the pairing sheet to add to the possible drama. However, no final game showdown was to happen as Eagle House brought in 4 of the 6 first games to finish - all wins, including the all-important board 4 game against Ridgeway. A final storming round of 4 / 4 from Dolphin A enabled them to catch Ridgeway for a share of second place.
So, after three jamboree second places (two at the Under 11 Autumn event, and last season's "B" League winners event), Eagle House took home a magnificent trophy and no doubt have a bright future to look forward to.
