A pleasing entry of 26 took part in the Under 11 County Team Trial at Aldryngton School. The event was keenly contested, with the time limit of 40 minutes per player being used to advantage by some as a change in pace from the Saturday Afternoon competitions. James Holland was the outstanding winner with 6/6, pushed only by Rachel Davey with 5/6, who only lost their individual encounter. The chasing pack was closely congested, with five players triumphing to share third equal with 4/6 in the last round, in turn edging out a further four falling just behind with 3½/6. Alexander Manton-Jones was rewarded for his consistent play by taking the third place trophy from his rivals on a tiebreak.
The event showed good depth in the field which should enable Berkshire to raise 20 board teams for this season's matches with consistency through the team. We look forward to the challenging first fixture vs Hertfordshire on 6 November. Thanks to the parents, players, helpers and the school for an enjoyable day's competition.
