NYCA Under 12 and Under 16 Sunday, September 24
Keith Tunstall writes:

Although there were fewer teams entered this year for the first NYCA team events, the competition was just as tough as ever.

The intrepid travellers from Berkshire made their way to Birmingham to battle it out over four rounds at both under 12 and under 16 levels.

The under 12 team started really well with 6 points in the first round to lie in third place out of seven. With five points in each of rounds two and three in the final round, they slipped to fourth place by just one point. Despite all their enthusiasm, the team, whose average age was just 9 3/4, couldn't keep up their momentum and finished in sixth place. An excellent result and more than double the points of the last placed team. Even though points were hard to come by there were two people in the under 12 team unbeaten on the day. One of the unbeaten players was Edward Wise while the other had the magic 100% score. Not only that, he was the youngest player too - Matthew Wadsworth. Well done.

The under 16 team came up against some even tougher competition. Their average age was just 13, but like all Berkshire teams they never gave up. In fact in the first round all but one Berkshire under 12 player had finished before the first under 16 player returned to the team room! However, points were even harder to come by and the team hovered around fifth and sixth places as the match progressed. Overall everyone contributed a point or more to the team total to finish in a very credible sixth place (just like the under 12 team ;-). No 100% scorers, but Adrian Archer-Lock did remain unbeaten on the day. A great achievement since he played players from the top two teams on the day.

As usual a great team spirit throughout the event. Thank you to all the drivers for getting everyone to Birmingham, and thank you to everyone who played. A great effort.
