Bucks Junior Congress Sunday, October 15
Mark Vandersluis writes:

Six Berkshire players took part in the Bucks Junior Congress in High Wycombe, with at least one representative in each age group. All sections were played over 6 rounds with 30 minutes on the clock for each player.

In the U8 group Tom Vandersluis played solidly and used his time well, losing only to the eventual winner to finish 2nd on 4½ points, and successfully qualifying for the U8 London Junior Chess Championship event in December

Matthew Wadsworth stepped up an age group to take the U10 title with an unbeaten 5½ points, a superb achievement for a 6 year-old. Ryan Chen took an early setback in his stride and finished strongly in 3rd place on 4½ points. Both players achieved the qualifying mark for the U10 Major London Junior Chess Championship.

In the Under 12 group, Michael Romanov and Maximillian Papachristos both took part in their first "out of county" event, each scoring a creditable 2 points and gaining valuable experience.

Robert Starley was one of the youngest players in the combined U14/U18 group, scoring an excellent 3 points in a very tough section.

Don't forget that our own Berkshire Junior Congress takes place on Sunday 26th November, and is also a London Junior Chess Championship Qualifying event.
