Claires Court and Ridgeway Society Sixth Annual Chess Festival Saturday, November 18
Eileen Goford writes:

Fifty-seven chess players participated in the Sixth Annual Claires Court and Ridgeway Parents Society Chess Festival on Saturday November 18th in the Sports Hall at Ridgeway School. Twenty plus schools were represented with five of them fielding three or more players, making them eligilble for the School Trophy.

The standard of chess was high. All played seven rounds. Winners and runners up received a trophy each to keep. Section winners and runners up were (with winner's name first): Under 8: Kieran Grey and Ben Ward. Under 9: Elliot Ghent and Angus Hatrick, Under 10: Ryan Chen and Edmond Lote; Under 11: Roy Zhang and Sam Goodwin, Under 13: Adrian Archer-Lock and Aaron George; Under 15: James Adair and Under 18 : Edward Hicks.

Winner of the School Trophy was St. Paul's Wokingham who beat Ridgeway by half a point, scoring 18 out of a possible 21. Well done St. Paul's.

Participants were given toasted sandwiches to sustain them throughout the day. We were grateful to Nigel Dennis, and his team of willing helpers who ensured that the pairings were accurate and the chess was as it should have been.
