In a minor alteration to the usual setup, it was decided to run a second section based on age rather than grade, giving some of the top under 9 players a chance to shine.

A friendly welcome (as always) at Whiteknights, some fine weather (allowing the more excitable players a chance to run off some steam), and good cooperation from all meant that the event ran very smoothly and was enjoyed by all. There was even time for an excellent training session from Nigel Dennis.

The open section went mostly to form, with top-graded Daniel Noel scoring a perfect 6 / 6, followed by rising star Varun Khandekar with 5 points, having lost only to Daniel.

The under 9 section was more volatile, but top seed William Foo ran out the winner with another 6 / 6, scoring all his points the hard way - against players who all finished in the top half. Peter Robinson dropped a point against William but secured wins against all other opponents to finish in sole second place. It was pleasing to see several younger players, 7 year-olds and even 3 entrants aged only 6, taking part.
